  9. comedy festival, the Cannes of professional cutups. Tomlin, who
  10. will be the host of the conclave's cable-TV finale, traces her
  11. spotlight fever to childhood. "I would put on my mother's slip
  12. and do a ballet, throw pearls around my neck and play `Lily on
  13. The Ed Sullivan Show,' do a magic trick. Years later, people
  14. told me I was the first performance artist."
